Free, Ayo Plus and purchases

Free includes your first connected mailbox from any supported provider. A single Ayo Plus purchase unlocks additional mailboxes and on-device receipt signature verification, without a subscription. Open Ayo Plus in Settings to see Apple’s current price, purchase or restore using the Apple Account that bought it. Pending purchases unlock after approval. Additional saved accounts are preserved but locked without Plus; long-press a locked account in Settings to remove it without purchasing. The first saved mailbox remains available. Signature checks are not performed without Plus; original export and receipt labels remain available. A known mismatch already detected in the open message stays visible. Purchase availability depends on the App Store.

Connect a mailbox

Choose Aruba PEC, Poste Italiane, Legalmail, Register.it or Namirial in Settings → Add account. Poste requires selecting Postecertifica (generate a client password in its dashboard) or legacy Postecert. Legalmail accepts your PEC address or an optional InfoCert User ID; use an Application Password if required. Register.it supports PEC Agile and PEC Unica; check the official guide for migrated mailboxes. For Namirial, enable IMAP/SMTP and use an application password with two-step verification; SpidMail cannot connect to external mail clients. Each preset shows official instructions, Webmail and its server names. Manual setup accepts explicit IMAP/SMTP servers and implicit-TLS ports with optional usernames. Both servers use the same password with IMAP LOGIN / SMTP AUTH LOGIN. STARTTLS and OAuth are not supported. Ayo checks IMAP on connection and SMTP when sending. Password updates preserve the selected service and servers. Ayo does not create provider accounts or manage subscriptions.

Send and check receipts

A successful send means your outgoing server accepted the message, not that PEC delivery is complete. Receipt labels are inferred from PEC metadata. On opening the full original, Ayo separately checks the outer S/MIME signature on the device. Read the integrity and certificate-chain results together; neither a receipt label nor intact signed content alone establishes a trusted delivery. Ayo does not provide certified archival storage. Export the original .eml when needed.

Understand signature verification

Requires Ayo Plus; a signature/content mismatch is always reported, also in the free version. Provider signature verified means the signature matches the signed MIME content and the certificate chains to the bundled AgID CA1 certificate on the current device date. Intact signature, origin not confirmed means the content matches but the certificate is unrecognized, expired, unsuitable or uses a weak algorithm: do not treat it as a reliable receipt. A signature/content mismatch marks the receipt as unreliable and needs investigation; an incomplete check is not proof of validity or tampering. Revocation, historical validity, qualified legal validity, current provider accreditation and signatures on individual attachments are not checked. Outer headers such as Subject and From are not covered. Older CA chains may be unrecognized. No receipt or certificate is uploaded and no external certificate checks are requested. Keep automatic date and time enabled; use the provider’s Webmail and a specialist validation tool when further evidence is needed.

A message or Sent copy is missing

Pull to refresh. Inbox and Sent are indexed without a message-count limit; full content downloads when opened. Choose the Sent folder in Settings if detection is ambiguous. Pending copies can be checked and synchronized there. If sending is marked uncertain, inspect receipts and Webmail before resending to avoid duplicate delivery.

Notifications are delayed

Local checks are scheduled by iOS and may be delayed for hours or skipped. Allow notifications and Background App Refresh, and unlock once after reboot. Low Power Mode or force-quitting can prevent checks. Turn on checks for each mailbox in Settings → Accounts → your mailbox → Notifications for this mailbox.

Contacts and language

Enable Contacts suggestions from the composer. Denying access still allows suggestions from mail history. Change Contacts permission and preferred app language in iOS Settings. Ayo supports Italian and English; it does not translate email content.

Files and supported features

Ayo indexes Inbox and Sent. Full message downloads are limited to 8 MB per message; compose attachments to 5 MB in total. Open oversized messages in your provider’s Webmail; Ayo provides a shortcut for each preset provider. Some unusual MIME formats and .p7m files need another viewer. Aruba PEC mailbox two-step enrollment and approval still require the official Aruba PEC app.

Get help

Email [email protected] with the Ayo version, iOS version, the steps you took and the error text with personal details removed. Never send passwords or pairing keys. Artetecha supports Ayo; your provider handles mailbox provisioning, billing and provider account recovery.

Authenticator and Aruba 2FA

Open Settings → General / app → Security and authenticator. Unlock the authenticator, scan a standard TOTP QR or enter the service’s Base32 key and parameters, review the details and confirm a separate recovery method before saving. Finish enrollment by confirming a generated code with the service. Use automatic date and time in iOS. The Aruba customer account (such as [email protected]) supports authenticator enrollment; verify compatibility during setup. PEC mailbox enrollment and login approvals still require the official Aruba PEC app. Deleting a code in Ayo does not disable the service’s 2FA. Ayo supports SHA1/SHA256/SHA512, 6/8 digits and periods from 15 to 120 seconds; HOTP and bulk transfer QR formats are unsupported.

Settings and synchronization

General / app contains app lock, the independent authenticator, language and help. Providers contains shared synchronization defaults and provider-specific guides. Accounts contains individual mailbox settings; opening an account selects it for mail. Refresh on opening and Index Sent folder default to On. Each account can Use provider (including future changes), or override either option with On or Off. Restore provider defaults removes overrides. Manual accounts share defaults only when their IMAP/SMTP servers and ports match. Turning off automatic refresh still allows manual refresh. Turning off Sent indexing retains its cache and does not stop sent copies being saved on the server. Inbox history stays unlimited. Notifications and background checks remain separate account settings.
